Until I match his donation I have no right to criticise? I disagree. Personally, I gave 40 dollars. Now mind you, I am a grocer, and I get paid a little over ten dollars an hour. I think it's quite unfair to compare my donation with his simply because the context is different. I don't come from a family that has an hereditary fortune, and I don't have a presidential salary of 300k+.
You are ovbiously unfamiliar with the term "economics of scale", because if you were you'd realize that ten grand for Mr. Bush is like a drop in a bucket. 10k for me is a quarter of my educational debt. So my contribution, as a percent of my total worth, might be comparable to that of our president. So, even under your criteria I might still be allowed to voice my opinion.
I however, think that your premise is false as well. That I have to give money to voice my dissent is assinine. It is in our consitiution, if you'd like to get technical.
This might be a whole different debate, but it has equal worth.
I look forward to your rebuttal.
Well, to start off, this will be brief, I have a US Government exam tomorrow at 7am.
I did some simple math; The President is paid $400,000.00 a year (raised during Clinton's term, made effective on Bush's first). His $10,000 donation is 1/40 of his salary, if you donated $40.00, by scale, you make $1,600 a year (working approx 3 hours a week). Though it is possible, I don't think that can be considered a living wage.
I think Bush's response to the Tsunami was appropriate and commendable. Aside from committing our (taxpayers) money (to be technical, you can count that in addition to your $40), he sent our troops to a nation that is torn my militant rebels, and already has an approximate date for their departure set (March, '05). Personally, I don't think they want anymore than are already there. He was very generous with our government’s money, and the private sector has (about) matched that.
You are protected by The First Amendment in your rights to dissent, and if you have a bone to pick with Bush, great, talk all you want. However, it is hypocritical to say that Bush isn't doing enough, not spending enough money, not sending enough aid. If I had time, or the election process didn't end today, I would have taken issue with your complete recitation of the radical left's talking points. I chose this one because it was fairly straightforward.
I hope the politically polarized America can move forward in the next four years, respect for their president, and if they are dissatisfied, break the trend of horrifically low voter turnout during midterm elections and make their voices heard (as republicans did in ’96). It is a good time to be a young republican, with evidence to support the status quo moving toward the right; in addition, to have been at the epicenter for this past (my first) election, Columbus, Ohio is truly exciting.
I'm glad you're excited about democracy, you have every reason to be. I hope our country is well taken care of in these next four years, well see how the people feel again in 2006, when the next round of elections happen.
Thanks for the label "radical left", its those subtleies that further agitate our polarization.
If I didn't give enough for you, I'm sorry. But throwing up the president's salary isn't the whole picture either...
I think that's the underlying issue I have with republican politics. The tendency to create very limited data sets and draw large conclusions from them.
Listen, I don't think that giving 10k of your own isn't generous, I just think that you don't know how rich this man really is. Therefore you have no right to insult me for the size of my donation, which is what you did.
Aside from committing our taxpayers money for Tsunami relief, he also used it for a war on questionable grounds, using questionable data. He also used it without a declaration of war from congress, and I feel that these decisions directly impared our armed forces ability to do more in this disaster. That is what I'm saying. This was an oppotunity for America to overwhelm the rest of the world with our generosity and logistical precision. I agree, American troops have helped with relief, but the forces are stretched thin and most times they make stop and go runs. These usually means that they're on the ground for less than five minutes, and that they don't attempt to talk with the people they're aiding to assess what their needs truly are. If even a fraction of the troops in Iraq were able to help (trust me, most of them would rather be there than in Iraq) we would be better able to help. If I'm radical for making that connection, so be it.
Good luck on your exam, have you ever thought about doing a foreign study?
How much did you give?
In no particular order:
1) I gave $60, I am a highschool student, my income last year was around $1,500.00.
1a) I am also the chair of a school wide fund-drive. Our goal is to beat the $24,000.00 raised last year for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
2) I don't remember the exact words you used, but if Russia, Great Brittain, and the CIA unreliable sources, then who do you trust?
3) thank you, I kicked the exams ass.
4) I have considered forign study, but not for political resons, strictly to experience a new culture outside of a two week trip.
5) As far as not getting a declaration of war, the president was within the bounds of the war powers act, he reported within 48 hours, and was reevaluated within 60. also the US has only declared war four times within the last 270-odd years.
6) I don't know what you missed about my last statement, but the Indonesians don't want our troops there, they have set a March 26th departure date (see this link: http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=auoMKe.56Ix0&refer=home
7) To reiterate, you don't want to send more troops to a country that does not want them. That may not send a good message to the rebel groups that have that distraught country in their grasp.
Hey everyone "They have to plant" But we have to power. So will march day and night by the big cooling tower they have the guns but we have the power" Lisa simpson.
But only if we work together. everyone in the drum circle ya know. So try your best and dont fret and keep the love respctufully

As much as id LIKE to disagree with your statements, as I consider myself fairly conservative, i cannot, what you say makes sense and is well thought out. I have long thought that going into IRAQ wasnt the brightest idea in the world, especially when there were "bigger fish to fry" but we are there, and I support our troops wholeheartedly. Hopefully, after the elections, we will be able to continue to gradually train and arm the military over there, and slowly come home. HOWEVER, Being a Jew, New Yorker, and firsttime newborn father (shes the cutest most precious thing on earth!) i FULLY stand behind our president. I support the Patriot Act to its fullest extent, and think the Dept. of Homeland Security is doing a good job. Lets just remember on whos watch 9/11 was hatched and WHERE they learned to fly for it! That will not happen today. Just like those 4 loonies who are supposedly planning something in Boston will be quietly and quickly snatched off the street. Hundreds upon hundreds of people that we dont read or hear about have been snatched off the streets because of being tied to known terroists or "cells" I know its all very Orwellian and scary to think that this is the way our great country has become, BUT this is how it is now, like it or not. There are forces ALL OVER THE WORLD who hate us and want to destroy us for the simple reason that we are FREE, practice FREEDOM of EXPRESSION, and FREE SPPECH (and our valiant support of brave little Israel) we cannot become REACTIVE, we MUST be PROACTIVE or more buildings will fall and more lives will be lost. This is what those people screaming at me at Union Square 14th Street in NYC dont understand; there are people like me who have wives they love and daughters they cherrish, and if someone wants to go through my underwear drawer because its in the interest of national security, go right in sir.
Did you ever think about what AL-Quedas goal is? what is it? have they ever said? NO, NEVER, they dont have a goal, except to convert everything, or destroy everything, and they will NEVER stop. Do you think if were not in Iraq, didnt support Israel, that they would stop trying to destroy us? think again. This is how the world is now, and since we're not building a GIANT wall around us, we MUST become PROACTIVE, before something VERY bad happens again. There are only 2 things that truly matter to me: keep my family safe and keep my taxes low. THIS is the reason that I vote for and support Mr. Bush. I hope this all makes sense to you all, im not trying to offend anyone or upset anyone. I'm a very peaceful, GratefulDead loving, IPOD listening guy, but im very adamant about this, and am steadfast in my convictions. I just want my little girl to grow up in a world where she will be safe and protected.
Take care everyone and long live the Glorious Grateful Dead
Ignorance is bliss, that’s your call my friend to just close your eyes and go back to bed. I understand your motivations and your love for your country though you have to examine the whole picture. Now that sounds like me simply trying to push my own rhetoric upon you though I say this with a voice of desperation a last call before a government plunges even deeper into the rabbit hole of hypocrisy and doublespeak.
I’m not sympathizing at all with terrorists but I ask you look to their motivations for their acts, as heinous and wrong as they are why did they do it. You shall find what lies at the heart of these terrorists and their followers. That they oppose not freedom or democracy but the foreign policy and hypocrisy of ideology that your government exports, the true nature of your beloved nation and its dirty secrets. They attack shadow government that stands behind, not you.
You seem intelligent enough to see part of the hypocrisy but you stop at its doorway in a fit of despair or maybe confusion? I say trudge on!! Seek the truth wherein does it lie and how does your media and government use it against you. Look to your nationalism, how does the machine use it to coerce you into alignment. Though I still believe these words will be lost on you pushed away as leftist liberal bullshit.
But hey I just had 10 minutes to blow so I hope this helps.
